Montgomery Square

Montgomery, Alabama
Civil Rights Movement

EJI's newest Legacy Site, opened in 2026, sits on a hill overlooking downtown Montgomery and details the pivotal decade from 1955 to 1965 — the Montgomery years that changed the world. Visitors trace a detailed timeline wall, experience powerful public art, and hear firsthand accounts from people who were present during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Selma marches, and other watershed Civil Rights events, in the very places where this history unfolded.

Counter-Narrative

The myth this site refutes: that civil rights were granted by government. They were extracted through sustained, organized sacrifice.
