Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park

Church Creek, MD
Slavery

Located in the marshlands of Maryland's Eastern Shore, this national park preserves the landscape where Harriet Tubman was born into slavery, survived brutal conditions, and began her legendary self-liberation and rescue missions. Tubman guided over 70 enslaved people to freedom using the Underground Railroad and later served as a Union spy and advocate for women's suffrage.

Counter-Narrative

The myth this site refutes: that enslaved and oppressed people accepted their condition. Every stone here is evidence of refusal.
