Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area

Chicago, IL
Great Migration

The heart of Chicago's Great Migration story, Bronzeville was a self-contained African American metropolis that became the cultural, economic, and political center for hundreds of thousands of Black migrants from the South. Home to 76 National Historic Landmarks including the Robert S. Abbott House, Bronzeville shaped jazz, blues, and Black political power in the 20th century.

Counter-Narrative
