Exoduster settlers
The Exoduster settlers were a group of African Americans who migrated from the Southern United States to Kansas in the late 19th century, seeking freedom and opportunity in the wake of the Reconstruction era. This movement marked the first significant migration of African Americans to the West, driven by a desire for land, autonomy, and a better quality of life in a time of systemic oppression. Their journey and settlement laid the groundwork for future generations of Black entrepreneurship and community building in the West.
