Museo Afroperuano de Zaña
Inaugurated on 29 March 2005 in the historic town of Zaña (Lambayeque), the Museo Afroperuano was founded and is directed by historian Luis Rocca Torres. It documents the history and culture of Peru's African-descended population — descendants of enslaved Africans brought to the northern Peruvian coast from the 16th century onward — with exhibits on foodways, music (including the landó and zamacueca), dance, and the colonial hacienda economy.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that African American cultural production was derivative. Jazz, blues, and hip-hop are among America's only original art forms.
