Manassas National Battlefield Park

Manassas, VA
Slavery

This park preserves the ground of two major Civil War battles (First and Second Manassas). The park interprets not only the military engagements but also the lives of enslaved and free African Americans who lived and worked on the land, and their experiences during the war.

Counter-Narrative

The myth this site refutes: that Black Americans were not trusted to fight for the country. They fought — and were still denied the rights they defended.
