Cane River Creole National Historical Park
Natchitoches, LA
This park preserves the cultural landscape and two of the most intact Creole cotton plantations, Oakland and Magnolia, along the Cane River. It tells the stories of French and Spanish colonization, the lives of enslaved African Americans, and the unique Creole culture of the region.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that enslaved and oppressed people accepted their condition. Every stone here is evidence of refusal.
