Fisk University / Jubilee Hall
Nashville, TN
Founded in 1866 for formerly enslaved people, Fisk University in Nashville became one of the most celebrated HBCUs in American history. Jubilee Hall, completed in 1876 and funded by the Fisk Jubilee Singers' international tours, is a National Historic Landmark and the oldest permanent structure built for the education of Black students in the United States.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that segregated education was uniformly inferior. These campuses produced lawyers who dismantled segregation itself.
