Museo Afroantillano de Panamá
Inaugurated by the Panamanian government on 22 December 1980, the Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama honors the tens of thousands of West Indian (chiefly Jamaican and Barbadian) laborers who built the Panama Railroad and the Panama Canal (1904–1914). Housed in a restored Methodist chapel once serving the Antillean community in Calidonia, it displays photographs, household items, utensils, religious objects, and personal letters documenting the migrant experience and the community's role in modern Panama.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that the African American struggle was isolated. It resonated from Paris to Lagos to Port-au-Prince.
