Paine College
Augusta, GA
Founded in 1882 in Augusta, Georgia by the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church South—a biracial founding unusual for the era—Paine College has educated Black Georgians in Augusta, birthplace of James Brown.
