Judge Isaac Parker

Judge Isaac Parker, known as the 'Hanging Judge,' served as a federal district judge in Fort Smith, Arkansas, from 1875 to 1896, presiding over cases that often involved the complex interplay of law and justice in the turbulent post-Reconstruction South. His court became notable for its harsh sentencing, especially toward those involved in crimes against African Americans, but he also played a role in the establishment of civil rights protections during a time of growing racial violence and discrimination.
