Museu Afro Brasil
Founded in 2004 by the artist and curator Emanoel Araújo, the Museu Afro Brasil occupies Oscar Niemeyer's Padre Manuel da Nóbrega Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park. It holds over 6,000 works — paintings, sculptures, photographs, documents, and ritual objects — making it the largest museum dedicated to Afro-descendant art and culture in the Americas, with a particular focus on the religious, artistic, and historical memory of Africans and their descendants in Brazil.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that African American cultural production was derivative. Jazz, blues, and hip-hop are among America's only original art forms.
