Obama Presidential Center

Obama Presidential Center

Chicago, Illinois
Contemporary

Built on Chicago's South Side where the Obamas' journey began, the Obama Presidential Center is a 19.3-acre campus and museum exploring the promise and power of democracy through the legacy of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Museum's four levels feature dynamic exhibits tracing the First Family's story, iconic moments from the presidency, and the social movements that made their work possible — rooted in the Black community of the South Side.

Counter-Narrative

The myth this site refutes: that systemic racism made Black presidential leadership impossible. Barack Obama won two national elections — his presidency was not the end of racism, but proof that Black political power, built over generations of organizing, can reach the highest office on Earth.
