National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA) — Headquarters at Simmons College
The National Baptist Convention of America split from the NBC in 1915 over control of the National Baptist Publishing Board, with R.H. Boyd leading the breakaway group. The publishing board dispute was about more than business — it represented a debate over Black institutional autonomy and economic self-determination within church structures. Today the NBCA is headquartered at Simmons College of Kentucky in Louisville, an HBCU with deep roots in Black Baptist education.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that the Black church was only spiritual. These buildings were courtrooms, schools, organizing halls, and sanctuaries.
