Shaw University
Raleigh, NC
Founded in 1865, Shaw University is the oldest HBCU in the South and the alma mater of Ella Baker, the extraordinary organizer who founded SNCC—the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee—in Shaw's chapel in 1960.
