Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site
Washington, DC
This site preserves the home and office of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the "Father of Black History." It was here that he lived and worked for over 30 years, editing the Journal of Negro History and founding Negro History Week, which evolved into Black History Month.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that Black communities lacked investment in learning. HBCUs and freedom schools existed before many white institutions.
