African American Civil War Memorial
Washington, DC
The African American Civil War Memorial honors the more than 200,000 African American soldiers and sailors who fought for the Union in the Civil War. It features the Spirit of Freedom sculpture and is accompanied by the African American Civil War Museum.
Counter-Narrative
The myth this site refutes: that Black Americans were not trusted to fight for the country. They fought — and were still denied the rights they defended.
